BASE Camp stands for Belonging & Allyship in the Student Experience.

For us, the foundational objectives of diversity, inclusion and equity all come together to create Belonging. For people to truly feel like they belong, they need allies; peers, leaders, faculty, and staff that all contribute to student success at Mines. Through BASE Camp, student leaders, known as BASE Leaders, will have extra training on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. Through partnership and collaboration, we will work to develop consistent language, leadership skills, and knowledge that will elevate the collegiate experience for all Mines’ students. BASE Camp is intended to be a place to start and a place to return. It is a place for everyone to learn, grow, and lead.

GOALS OF THE PEER EDUCATION PROGRAM
1. To develop student campus leaders who will gain and practice the skills needed to act as positive role models to the Mines Community, to help their peers thrive at Mines, and to succeed as healthy and well-rounded adults.

2. To enhance the outreach, education, skill-building, and personal growth relevant to furthering students’ well-being, coping, and resilience.

3. To build the capacity of Student Wellness Promotion, the SHAPE Office for sexual assault advocacy and prevention education), and the Counseling Center in their ability to impact more students and areas of campus with education and prevention on topics that are critical to student safety, wellbeing, and belonging.

4. To create an excellent program that is certified, effective, and unified in its vision and purpose.

Mission
As part of the Every Oredigger Initiative, Colorado School of Mines is working to establish and maintain a strong stratified campus support network of students, faculty, and staff knowledgeable about mental health and suicide and able to respond effectively to those who need help.

This tiered network includes a broad base of faculty, staff and students who are trained in resilience and active listening, as well as recognizing warning signs and becoming familiar with campus and community resources. A smaller subset of individuals on campus are trained in intervention and safety planning.

Membership Benefits
Orediggers who attend trainings that prepare them to assist someone who may be dealing with a mental health crisis or thoughts of suicide will be given a green placard to hang up in or near their office or desk. This placard is a sign to students, faculty and staff that they are a safe person who cares and can connect those in need to appropriate resources. It also indicates that they are an advocate for mental health and well-being on campus.

The mission of Fraternity and Sorority Life is to foster a community of belonging through fellowship, scholarship, and leadership. Through our three pillars of community, empowerment, and impact we use our collective power to better our community, our fellow students, and our brothers and sisters through these shared values.

Community
Fraternity and Sorority Life students play an active and important role in the community. Each chapter thrives in providing a fulfilling experience for each member, not just in their time at Colorado School of Mines, but after as well. We are noticeable members in all areas of campus, holding leadership roles in other organizations, participating in campus traditions, and providing events for the community.

Empowerment
A key advantage of joining our FSL community is the empowerment we strive to provide our members. We empower each other to be better leaders, activists, collaborators, and friends. Through our work, we equip individuals with education and training to improve their daily lives along with those surrounding them.

Impact
Our students aim to make an impact in their academic achievements, community outreach programs, and within each other. FSL is known for its philanthropic endeavors. Members serve to raise money, give back, and make a difference in the work that they choose.

Founded in 1991, the Graduate Student Government (GSG) is the governing body of and for graduate students at Colorado School of Mines. GSG addresses issues of concern to graduate students at Mines, and organizes various research, academic and social functions.

Membership Benefits
All registered graduate students are automatically members of the GSG and are welcome to attend meetings and events. The GSG Council is comprised of representatives from each degree-granting department or division, and it meets monthly to guide GSG policies and activities.

The Professional and Scholar Communities Applied Learning (PASCAL) Center works to develop, advance, and steward scholarship communities and professional development at Mines. The PASCAL Center directly manages scholarship communities, promotes and programs professional development opportunities with campus partners, and meaningfully engages with alumni and donors. Our center’s efforts advance Mines@150 aspirations to actively support community, scholarship, professional development, engagement and applied learning for all students at Mines.
