Mission The Society of Women in Physics (SWiP) is an organization that is open to undergraduate and graduate students at Mines aimed at supporting marginalized gender groups in the Engineering Physics department. The group is open to everyone on campus (not just women and physics majors). The group meets monthly and has ~15 varied attendees. Monthly meeting topics consist of salary negotiations, graduate school advice, research presentations, and social events. The club supports members to go to the yearly Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics to experience unique networking and professional development opportunities. SWiP partners with the other physics organizations (SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma) to provide a wide variety of volunteering and advancement opportunities. A signature event that SWiP participates in is the Girls Lead the Way volunteering event with SWE.
Membership BenefitsMembers of the Society of Women in Physics (SWiP) will find meetings to be an open place for meeting others within the department, learning about careers in physics, and be given support in navigating the Engineering Physics major or Mines as a whole. SWiP members are also advertised opportunities for conferences such as the Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP) and aided in the finances and planning of going. Lastly, SWiP serves to provide dinner at all meetings which is free to attendees.
